TLT expands fintech capability

TLT has expanded its fintech and payments expertise with the appointment of Tim Waller as a commercial partner in its London office.

Tim was previously senior vice president and deputy general counsel at FTSE 250 global payments group, Paysafe.

With over 12 years' experience, he understands the payments industry from all key vantage points and also has broad M&A experience having led a large number of projects in this sector worth over 1 billion USD.

Tim built and led a 20 strong legal team in multiple jurisdictions across Europe and North America at Paysafe. He was responsible for all commercial legal and regulatory work for card acquiring and issuing and pre-paid and e-money payment instruments, and partnered with local stakeholders to deliver innovative legal solutions powering growth.

The appointment builds on TLT's strength and depth in the fintech and regtech industries. TLT advised AccountScore – one of the first account information services providers (AISPs) to become FCA registered under the UK's new Open Banking regime earlier this year – on its FCA registration.

TLT's national network of offices supports traditional and new financial services providers including AISPs and payment service providers (PSPs) with a full range of legal needs including commercial and corporate matters, regulatory compliance, disputes and investigations. At TLT, Tim will be advising a wide range of clients including card issuers, acquirers, lenders, digital wallet operators, PSPs, prepaid issuers and FX providers.

Perran Jervis, TLT's national head of commercial, says: "Tim is an excellent lawyer with a deep knowledge of the burgeoning fintech and payments industry. As this sector continues to grow, businesses will face an increasing number of challenges as technology continues to develop, new entrants create stiffer competition and the regulatory framework attempts to catch up with these changes. Tim's appointment means we continue to be well placed to support these businesses with their commercial and legal needs. We are delighted to welcome Tim to our growing specialist commercial team."

Tim Waller, partner at TLT, says: "TLT is one of the leading firms in the dynamic financial services market. I'm excited to be joining a diverse team helping clients navigate through the changing regulatory landscape in order to deliver innovative solutions to consumers and businesses alike."

TLT is running two digital banking events in Manchester and London this autumn, including a preview of its latest research into how financial services companies are responding to Open Banking. To register your interest, please click here.
