Licensing hotline for Scottish brewers

TLT has launched a dedicated licensing "hopline" for members of The Brewers Association of Scotland (TBAS).

The service offers members free licensing advice, free legal health checks and discounted legal fees from TLT's specialist licensing team – the largest in Scotland.

TBAS was established by brewers for brewers to help support, promote and grow the sector. It has grown to more than 40 members including Cairngorm, Stewart's and Isle of Skye.

The hotline provides access to a full range of legal advice including support with licence applications, licensing training and regular newsletters and events, as well as access to TLT's broader legal services including trade, IP and employment law.

TBAS members will be supported by some of the leading licensing lawyers in Scotland, including partner Stephen McGowan, who leads TLT's licensing team in Scotland and was made an accredited licensing lawyer by the Law Society of Scotland in 2017; partner Caroline Loudon; legal director Niall Hassard; and solicitor Michael McDougall.

TLT has been recognised by the prestigious independent rankings, the Legal 500 and Chambers & Partners, as a top-tier law firm for licensing in Scotland.

McGowan says: "I have always been a strong supporter of independent brewing in Scotland and TBAS, and am proud to lead one of the largest and most experienced licensing teams in Scotland. Having worked in this industry for a number of years, I am aware of the many issues that licensing can present for a fast growing brewer, and am looking forward to continuing our work with TBAS and its members through this comprehensive service."

Caroline Wengel, business development manager for Scotland Food & Drink and TBAS, says: "Since its inception, TBAS has worked hard to raise awareness of the size and importance of the brewing industry in Scotland. Through this joint initiative with TLT, we aim to make it easier for members to access the information and support they need to run and grow their business."

Members of TBAS can contact the TLT team via 0333 0061203 or by emailing Stephen McGowan.
